How to Change or Disable Your RCON Password on a Garry's Mod Server Print

Remote Console (RCON) allows server owners to manage their Garry’s Mod server remotely via console commands. You can easily change or disable RCON access using your Imperium Hosting control panel.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Log Into Your Control Panel
   Visit the Imperium Hosting control panel and log in with your credentials.

2. Access Your Garry’s Mod Server
   Click on your Garry’s Mod game service to open the server management view.

3. Open the Configuration Files Module
   From the sidebar or module list, select “Configuration Files.”

4. Edit the server.cfg File

   • Locate the file named server.cfg

   • Click “Text Editor” next to it to open and modify its contents

5. Change or Set Your RCON Password

   • Find the line that begins with:

      

     rcon_password

   • Set it to your desired secure password. Example:

      

     rcon_password "MySecureAdminPass"

6. Save the File
   Click “Save & Exit” after making your changes.

7. Restart Your Server
   Head back to the main control panel and click Restart to apply the changes.

To Disable RCON Completely:

If you want to disable RCON access, simply clear the password field:

Then Save & Restart your server. RCON will now be disabled.

You're Done!

Your server is now protected with your updated RCON password, or RCON is fully disabled if you chose to remove the password.
