Customizing your Left 4 Dead 2 server allows you to create a unique experience for you and your players. Follow the steps below to easily adjust your server's name, password, and other core settings.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Log into your Imperium Hosting control panel
    Click here to log in

  2. Locate your Left 4 Dead 2 service
    On your dashboard, click into your L4D2 server to access its controls.

  3. Stop your server
    It's always recommended to stop your server before making configuration changes to ensure they apply correctly.

  4. Click on the “Configuration Files” tab
    This section contains all editable files that define your server’s behavior.

  5. Find and open the server.cfg file using the “Text Editor”
    Click the Text Editor next to server.cfg to access editable fields.

  6. Edit your server settings
    Here, you can adjust common settings such as:

    • hostname – The name that appears in the server browser

    • sv_password – Sets a password for private access

    • rcon_password – Remote console (RCON) access password

    • sv_lan – Set to 0 for public, 1 for LAN only

    Example:

     
    hostname "My Custom L4D2 Server" sv_password "supersecure" rcon_password "adminaccess123" sv_lan 0
  7. Click “Save” and then start your server
    Your changes will take effect the next time your server boots.
