RuneScape: Dragonwilds - Everything We Know About the Luminance Update

Once upon a time, in the scorched and unforgiving land of Ashenfall, danger lurked behind every shadow and every whisper carried the promise of betrayal. As dragons darkened the skies above Gielinor and chaos spread across the wilderness, a desperate plea for help reached your ears.

Hunted without mercy, Ceridwen and her child, two elf-like refugees, are fleeing for their lives. Their pursuer is Morwyn, a ruthless bounty hunter whose name alone is enough to strike fear into those who hear it. Relentless and unwavering, Morwyn will stop at nothing to track down the pair and claim the prize upon their heads.

With nowhere left to run and danger closing in from every direction, Ceridwen places her trust in you. Will you help protect an innocent family from a fate they do not deserve, or will the wilds of Ashenfall claim yet another tragic tale?

Welcome back to another RuneScape: Dragonwilds update breakdown! Today we're taking a look at everything we know so far about the upcoming Luminance update and honestly, there's a lot to be excited about.

Luminance serves as a prelude to the Blood Crystal Saga, which is set to continue throughout next year. While Kuldra's reign may be over, the story of Ashenfall is far from finished. New dangers are rising, old threats are stirring, and once again, heroes are needed.

This time, you'll find yourself helping Ceridwen and her child, two elves forced into hiding as they flee from the relentless bounty hunter Morwyn. Unlike previous adventures where secrecy and deception offered protection, Ceridwen has another plan in mind, one powered by music itself.

That's right. It's time to embrace your inner bard.

Players will be able to master the Lyre and resonate with Songstones scattered throughout Ashenfall. You'll also be able to resonate with Fairy Rings, unlocking new ways to travel to hidden locations across the map.

Alongside the new story content comes a whole range of new customisation options. If you've ever wanted your character to look more like an elf, this update has you covered. New facial features, elven ears, weapons, armour, and vestiges will help you fully embrace the look. You'll need to hunt down Harmonised Crystal Fragments to unlock some of these rewards, so expect a bit of adventuring before you can show off your new style.

Whether you're charging into battle head-first or picking enemies off from a distance, you'll be doing it in true elven fashion.

Builders, This One Is For You

One of the highlights of the update for builders is the arrival of a brand-new building kit inspired by Prifddinas.

Featuring beautiful white stonework, elegant green accents, and even new arched roof pieces, this kit looks set to completely change how players design their settlements.

I've already seen some incredible builds from the community, and I can only imagine what people will create with access to Prifddinas-inspired architecture.

Prayer Is Coming

Luminance will also introduce Prayer.

Now before you get too excited, this isn't the exact same Prayer skill from RuneScape or Old School RuneScape. Dragonwilds is taking a different approach.

Players will deepen their connection with the divine through actions such as scattering ashes and burying bones. At the moment we don't know everything about how Prayer will work, but we'll be learning more closer to release.

Personally, I'm interested to see what role it plays in the wider progression system.

A New Threat Emerges

While Ceridwen's story begins in Luminance, things start becoming even more dangerous when a faction known as the Nos Clan begins to rise.

A group of Rebel Elves will be seeking your help as tensions escalate across Ashenfall. Players will eventually travel to the elven city of Ailddinas, a breathtaking location filled with towering crystal structures and mystical forests.

Unfortunately, not everything is as beautiful as it first appears.

The corruption of the Nos Clan has already begun to spread throughout the city and surrounding woodlands, creating new dangers for anyone brave enough to explore.

New Creatures and the Hunter Skill

If fighting corrupted elves wasn't enough, Ashenfall is also becoming home to several new creatures.

Implings are making an appearance and while they might look cute, don't let that fool you. New Kebbit variants, Grizzly Bears, and additional wildlife will also be arriving with the update.

To deal with all these new creatures, players will gain access to the next skill coming to RuneScape: Dragonwilds:

Hunter.

Players will learn how to sneak, trap, track, and capture various creatures throughout Ashenfall. Better yet, Hunter is only the first of several new skills planned for the future.

The Story Continues: Crown of Night

If you thought the Nos Clan would stop there, think again.

The chapter following Luminance, known as Crown of Night, takes players directly into enemy territory.

The lands of the Nos Clan exist beneath a perpetual eclipse, trapped in eternal darkness. Sounds perfectly safe, right?

Players will harness the Light of Seren to push back against the growing darkness while crafting powerful new weapons and armour to take on the clan's leadership.

Legendary RuneScape favourites such as the Dark Bow and Ivandis Flail are set to make an appearance, giving players even more tools to bring the Nos Clan to its knees.

Final Thoughts

Luminance is shaping up to be much more than a simple content update. Between the continuation of Ashenfall's story, the introduction of Prayer, the arrival of Hunter, new building sets, fresh customisation options, and the beginning of the Blood Crystal Saga, there's a lot for Dragonwilds players to look forward to.

Personally, I'm most excited about the new building kit and the Hunter skill. Although knowing me, I'll probably spend half my time building before I remember there's an actual story to complete.

What part of the Luminance update are you most excited for?
